Francis E. Cummings was mustered into U. S. Vol. service for Spanish American War, May 21, 1898; was mustered out Oct. 25, 1898; enlisted in U. S. Army battalion of Engineers, Co. B, Jan. 25, 1899; was transferred to Co. A, Engineers of Regular Army; and was discharged Aug., 1900. He re-enlisted in Co. H, 1st. Me. Regt. Inf.; and was commissioned Major of 1st. Coast Artillery Corps of Maine, Dec. 27, 1912.
